Jubbaland’s regional parliament removed term limits thus allowing President Ahmed Islam Madobe to run for a third term of 5 years.
Previously, the regional President served two terms of four years each.
On Tuesday, parliamentarians voted to extend each term from 4 to 5 years.
Furthermore, the current office holder is now free to run for a third term when Jubbaland holds its elections soon.
President Madobe commended the regional legislators.
He called the Jubbaland parliament the “most resilient” of all the regional parliaments in Somalia.
