MOGADISHU — The Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency hosted a formal ceremony today to present a $14,400 donation, collected internally by its staff, to the youth of the Daryeel Bulsho Organization. The group is actively recognized for providing vital drought assistance and supporting vulnerable communities across Somalia.
Government and Civil Society Collaboration
According to officials, the raised funds will be utilized directly to supply affected populations with life-saving water, food rations, and emergency medical relief. This grassroots initiative by government employees complements broader state-level economic interventions, such as the $3.88 million in drought insurance payouts recently issued to Somali pastoralists.
Mohamed Ali Siyad (Champion), Chairman of Daryeel Bulsho, noted during the event that the Immigration and Citizenship Agency was the very first government entity to officially respond to their recent humanitarian appeal. He publicly thanked the agency’s staff for their dedication and financial involvement.
Osman Muxiyadiin Shaatax, Chairperson of the Civil Society Organizations Forum, expressed deep appreciation to the agency. He suggested that this proactive initiative could serve as a model, inspiring other public and private organizations to actively engage in drought relief activities alongside established state efforts, such as the recent deployment of water tankers to hard-hit districts.
A Call for Continued Solidarity
The ceremony was attended by prominent religious and community leaders, including Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Salad, Chairman of the Somali Scholars’ Council. He utilized the platform to highlight the absolute religious and cultural importance of Somalis supporting one another during challenging periods of severe drought.
Concluding the event, Mustafa Dhuxulow, Director-General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, directly urged Somali youth to continue their crucial involvement in humanitarian and community support initiatives. He expressed grave concern over the rising mortality rates linked directly to water scarcity, firmly emphasizing the necessity for all citizens to take personal responsibility in supporting drought-affected relatives and substantially enhancing local relief efforts.
