Army Chief Calls for Discipline in Troop Training Mission

MOGADISHU — Somali National Army (SNA) commander Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud delivered a firm directive today, advising soldiers departing for advanced overseas military training to maintain rigorous discipline and act as exemplary representatives of Somalia.

Professionalism and International Partnerships

During the formal farewell briefing, Mohamud emphasized that the behavior, conduct, and dedication of the deployed troops would directly demonstrate the growing professionalism of the Somali armed forces on the global stage.

He strictly instructed the soldiers to concentrate on learning advanced military skills and tactical operational knowledge from their international partners. He noted that this highly specialized training is absolutely crucial for significantly enhancing the nation’s domestic security capabilities, echoing the goals of the recent security and human rights agreements reached between the Defense Ministry and the UN Envoy.

Long-Term Stability and Security Transition

The commander also highlighted that the critical skills acquired abroad would immediately assist current, ongoing military operations upon the soldiers’ return, ultimately contributing to Somalia’s long-term regional stability.

According to defense officials, this overseas training program represents a key component of much wider national initiatives designed to fully professionalize the Somali National Army. The ultimate objective is to comprehensively prepare SNA forces to assume greater, independent security responsibilities within the country as international stabilization missions gradually draw down.
