Djibouti Denies Somalia Claims that IGAD Favored Kenya

Djibouti has denied the claims by Somalia that the fact-finding mission team appointed by Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) favored Kenya in its report.

Earlier this week, IGAD’s fact-finding team issued its report, which absolved Kenya of any accusation of interfering in Somalia’s internal affairs.

Somalia accused IGAD of being “biased, partisan, unfair, and predetermined to exonerate Kenya of all accusations leveled against it.

On January 28, the Djiboutian government issued a statement stating that the fact-finding mission visited Somalia and Kenya on January 9 and January 13 respectively.

Furthermore, Djibouti stated that the IGAD fact-finding mission carried out its mandate “professionally and impartially.”

Djibouti understandably defended the report since its citizens made up the membership of the fact-finding mission.

The Djiboutian government said that it strived to be an impartial arbiter in finding solutions for the growing differences between Somalia and Kenya.
