Human Rights Chairperson Launches Child Rights Coalition in Mogadishu

MOGADISHUDr. Maryam Qasim, Chairperson of the Independent National Human Rights Commission, delivered a keynote address on Wednesday at the official launch of a new alliance formed by four prominent international child welfare organizations.

The event in Mogadishu formally established the “Joining Forces Alliance (JFA),” a coalition bringing together:

A Shared Responsibility

During her speech, Dr. Maryam Qasim underscored the Commission’s dedication to protecting and advancing children’s rights in Somalia. She stated that all children deserve care, protection, and equal opportunities as fundamental human rights.

The Chairperson emphasized that safeguarding these rights is a shared responsibility involving not just organizations but the government, parliament, educational institutions, and every Somali household.

Policy Reform and Advocacy

The newly established coalition seeks to elevate children’s voices and push for policy reforms based on child rights principles.

Dr. Maryam Qasim welcomed the partnership, stressing that cooperation between international organizations and local institutions is vital for building a safe environment where Somali children can develop without facing abuse or violations.

She concluded the event by calling on all participants to transform the alliance’s launch into concrete actions that will enhance children’s welfare nationwide.
