Number of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases in Somaliland Reaches 19

Somaliland has confirmed 13 new COVID-19 cases thus bringing its total to 19, the Minister of Information has announced.

Suleiman Yusuf Ali, the information minister, made this announcement also in his position as the official spokesperson of the government.

He gave the new numbers during a press conference held at Hargeisa, which the capital of the semi-autonomous region.

Suleiman said, “Our country’s number of COVID-19 cases is 19. Consequently, the increase puts us in a critical place to ensure that the disease does not cause more harm than it has already.”

The minister said the virulent disease threatens everyone in the country hence the need for a combined approach to defeat it.

Additionally, the government announced further measures designed to curb the spread of the pandemic in the Horn of Africa nation.

It has banned the importation and sale of Khat, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The ban stays in place for the next 25 days.
