MOGADISHU — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of Somalia conducted a significant administrative restructuring today by officially dismissing two senior cabinet officials. The official decree removes State Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ismail Shire Jama, and State Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Asad Abdirizak Mohamed from their respective positions.
Streamlining Government Operations
According to the Prime Minister’s office, this targeted measure aims to reorganize departmental leadership and significantly enhance performance in these vital government sectors. The Prime Minister based this transition directly on Articles 120 and 117 of Somalia’s Provisional Constitution, ensuring the restructuring followed proper cabinet protocols.
The primary goal of the dismissals is to strengthen overall ministry operations. These administrative changes aim to simplify governance structures, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and ensure federal ministries fulfill their national economic responsibilities efficiently.
A Focus on Economic Performance
In the official announcement, Prime Minister Hamza recognized the service of the departing officials, expressing gratitude to Ismail Shire Jama and Asad Abdirizak Mohamed for their contributions to the federal government and wishing them well in their future pursuits.
This leadership change vividly demonstrates the Federal Government’s strict commitment to maintaining a highly responsive and effective cabinet capable of addressing the nation’s pressing domestic and economic challenges. The restructuring comes at a critical time for both sectors, as the government continues ongoing initiatives to modernize agricultural production and pursues new international partnerships to expand the country’s critical mineral capacities.
