MOGADISHU — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to convene a high-level briefing today at the Presidential Palace, gathering international diplomats based in Mogadishu’s secure Halane compound to address pressing national security concerns.
Addressing Regional Interference
According to sources in the capital, the president plans to comprehensively brief the foreign envoys on the nation’s current security and political landscape. A primary focus of the diplomatic discussions will be a formal federal complaint regarding Ethiopia’s recent and ongoing regional activities.
President Mohamud is expected to express deep concerns to the international community about Addis Ababa’s ongoing interactions with the Somaliland administration. Furthermore, the president will address Ethiopia’s alleged political and military support for Southwest State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen). These specific actions have increasingly been interpreted by Mogadishu as direct interference in Somalia’s internal affairs and a severe threat to the nation’s federal sovereignty.
Garnering International Support
This critical meeting occurs amid heightened regional tensions and directly follows the federal government’s urgent summons to international partners regarding the escalating crisis in Southwest State.
By engaging the diplomats stationed at the Halane compound, the Somali federal government is actively striving to garner robust international support for its firm position on territorial integrity. The administration seeks to ensure that its overarching stability roadmap remains intact despite the growing internal and external political pressures currently testing the federal system.
