MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Daud Aweis Jama, officially launched the annual Ramadan knowledge competition on Wednesday. The ceremony, broadcast live on national television, highlighted the program’s crucial role in advancing education and fostering national unity across the country.
The expanded tournament features participants from 32 districts nationwide. The highly anticipated opening match pits Las Anod district from the Sool region against Karan district from the Banadir region.
Fostering Intellectual Growth
The nationwide contest seeks to stimulate learning, enhance critical thinking skills, and promote youth involvement during the sacred month of fasting. Furthermore, organizers emphasize that the event serves as a platform to build stronger social connections between diverse communities throughout Somalia.
The opening ceremony was graced by senior federal officials, including delegates from the Banadir regional administration and representatives from IBS Bank, which serves as one of the primary corporate sponsors of the event.
In his keynote address, Minister Daud Aweis emphasized the profound significance of intellectual pursuits. He noted that strategic investments in knowledge and education remain fundamental pillars for Somalia’s enduring growth, stability, and national unity.
