LOWER SHABELLE — The Somali National Army (SNA), operating in close collaboration with Ugandan peacekeepers, successfully repelled a major Al-Shabaab offensive targeting the strategic town of Mubarak in the Lower Shabelle region.
Heavy Militant Casualties
According to official military reports, the fierce combat resulted in the deaths of over 40 Al-Shabaab fighters. Numerous other militants sustained severe injuries and were forced to retreat following the failed assault.
Mubarak stands as one of several critical territories successfully freed from extremist control during the recent Ramadan military campaigns. This strategic victory closely parallels the recent successful liberation of Hawadley from Al-Shabaab militants, underscoring a broader push to reclaim rural strongholds.
Restoring Vital Supply Routes
Following the successful defense of the town, major restoration projects are currently underway. Local authorities are actively working to rehabilitate the area’s infrastructure and permanently reopen vital civilian transport routes that were formerly obstructed by the insurgents.
Defense authorities and senior military leadership reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to ongoing counterinsurgency operations against Al-Shabaab. The federal government emphasized that its primary focus continues to be the immediate protection of civilians, restoring regional stability, and the complete eradication of any terrorist remnants still hiding across the region.
