CAIRO — Ambassador Ali Abdi Awari, representing Somalia as its official envoy to Egypt and permanent delegate to the Arab League, participated in a critical meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates held today at the General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo.
Preparations for the Ministerial Session
The high-level meeting was convened in direct preparation for the 165th session of the Council at the level of Foreign Ministers, which is scheduled to be held via video conference. In an official statement, Ambassador Awari noted that the Council systematically reviewed the draft agenda for the upcoming ministerial session.
According to the envoy, the forthcoming discussions will prominently feature the ongoing violations of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states, focusing particularly on the recent escalation of regional hostilities and the series of attacks attributed to Iran.
Defending Sovereignty and Regional Security
During the preparatory meeting, Ambassador Awari firmly reaffirmed the Federal Republic of Somalia’s strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting Gulf countries. The Somali delegation described the military actions as a blatant violation of state sovereignty and a direct threat to broader regional security and stability.
The Ambassador further emphasized Mogadishu’s full solidarity with Gulf nations and expressed formal support for the defensive measures taken to safeguard their respective territories and citizens. This diplomatic positioning aligns closely with Somalia’s recent official statements condemning the geopolitical escalation and reiterating the inherent right of Gulf states to defend their borders.
