Somali Ambassador Makes Historic Credential Presentation to Hungarian President

BUDAPEST — The Somali Ambassador to Germany and Poland, AbdiAsis Mohamud Mohamed (Farabadane), officially presented his Letters of Credence to Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok during a ceremony on February 17, 2026, in Budapest.

At the event, Ambassador Farabadane was accredited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Hungary on a non-resident basis. This historic occasion marks the first time a Somali envoy has presented credentials to Hungary, signifying a pivotal development in the expanding diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Expanding Global Footprint

During his speech, the Ambassador characterized the event as evidence of Somalia’s wider strategy to increase international engagement and bolster mutual partnerships. He noted that Mogadishu is consistently working on expanding its global footprint and establishing new alliances to advance national development objectives.

Hungary was identified as a key European partner for Somalia, with potential collaboration in fields that foster sustainable development, strengthen institutional capabilities, and promote economic partnerships.
