Somali Immigrant Opens a Restaurant in North Mankato

Nasra “Jamila” Ibrahim, an immigrant who left Somalia to the United States in 1994, has opened a new restaurant in North Mankato.

Before moving, she worked at her brother’s eatery in Mogadishu.

On Monday, Ibrahim opened her restaurant “J’s Sambusa.” She named it after a popular meat pie among Somalis that is filled with spices and ground beef.

She said the restaurant is a joint investment with her husband.

Ibrahim also reiterated her belief that 503 Belgrade Ave., which is the location, is perfect for the restaurant.

She expressed her nervousness since the restaurant is her first investment since arriving in the United States almost three decades ago.

Customers have already started visiting the restaurant to sample the many delicacies that Ibrahim and her stuff have to offer.
