Somali Intelligence Agency Reports Killing of Nine Al-Shabaab Militants in Raid

MOGADISHU — Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officially announced on Saturday that its elite forces, operating with vital backing from international security partners, successfully executed a series of highly coordinated operations in the Lower Shabelle region. The sweeping offensive resulted in the confirmed deaths of nine Al-Shabaab militants and the total destruction of heavy equipment utilized for manufacturing lethal explosives.

Dismantling Explosives Infrastructure in Kuunyo Barrow

According to a detailed operational statement released by NISA, the initial and primary assault occurred deep within the Kuunyo Barrow area. Here, advancing security forces targeted a fortified facility described by intelligence officials as a crucial logistical hub for militant activities.

During the intense, precision assault, federal forces discovered and completely destroyed six large industrial generators that were reportedly being actively utilized to manufacture Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The agency reported that six fighters, including what it officially termed “senior operatives,” were killed during the raid. Citing ongoing intelligence operations, NISA has not yet disclosed the specific identities of the deceased individuals.

This targeted destruction of militant infrastructure directly complements ongoing, nationwide intelligence efforts led by NISA to sever Al-Shabaab’s operational and financial supply chains.

Secondary Engagements and Future Offensives

A secondary, rapid-response operation was concurrently conducted near Tugaareey, where intelligence indicated militants were actively hiding in a dense, forested location. As per the official statement, three additional fighters were neutralized in this engagement, while several others managed to escape the immediate area under the cover of the dense vegetation.

NISA firmly stated that these latest combat operations represent the continued, unwavering efforts by Somali authorities to drastically diminish Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities and systematically dismantle its entrenched infrastructure throughout southern Somalia.

Senior security officials indicated that these aggressive, intelligence-led operations, similar to other recent, successful military ambushes in Lower Shabelle, would persist relentlessly until the asymmetric threats posed by Al-Shabaab, which maintains ties with Al-Qaeda, are completely eradicated.
