ARUSHA — The Federal Republic of Somalia has furthered its regional economic and security strategy as Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan, Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and Permanent Representative to the East African Community (EAC), recently represented the country at the 59th Extraordinary Meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers.

Held at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, the high-level diplomatic session brought together senior officials from across the regional bloc to actively implement key integration initiatives.

Advancing Regional Integration

According to official reports, the ministerial meeting concentrated heavily on advancing cross-border integration efforts and executing the strategic decisions previously set by the EAC Heads of State Summit.

These ongoing discussions aim to harmonize regulatory environments, streamline institutional cooperation such as standardized travel documentation, and ensure that all member nations can equitably benefit from a unified, secure, and prosperous economic zone.

Somalia’s Commitment to the Bloc

Throughout the proceedings, the Somali delegation consistently emphasized Mogadishu’s unwavering commitment to the East African Community’s fundamental operational goals.

Through active and continuous participation in this executive council, Somalia is strategically positioning itself to access expanded regional markets and substantially improve its domestic economic infrastructure.
