Somalia and Djibouti Contemplating Close Cooperation in Fight against Terrorism

Somalia and Djibouti are contemplating joint operations against terrorists in the region.

This emerged following a successful meeting between the defense ministers from the two neighboring East African nations.

Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and Hassan Omar held a meeting in Djibouti on Monday.

Nur is Somalia’s Minister of Defense while Omar holds the same docket in the Djiboutian government.

General Zakariye Sheikh, the commander of the Djiboutian Armed Forces, attended the discussions between the two ministers too.

They discussed military cooperation between Somalia and Djibouti in the fight against terrorism.

Somalia has been carrying out multiple operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in the country.

Nur informed Omar and Gen. Sheikh that Somalia needs the support of all neighboring states and governments to defeat the Al-Shabaab.
