MOGADISHU — The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change hosted a high-level ceremony at the Office of the Prime Minister to present Somalia’s key achievements from the COP30 Climate Change Conference held in Brazil.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, along with various Cabinet Ministers, senior officials, and international development partners.
Key Milestones
During the presentation, the Ministry highlighted several major milestones achieved during the global summit. Notably, Somalia was recognized as the first country in East Africa to successfully submit its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
Officials also reported significant progress in advancing the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and strengthening the federal government’s mechanisms for accessing international climate finance.
Government Response
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre praised the Ministry’s leadership for their proactive engagement. He commended the delegation for ensuring Somalia maintained a “strong voice” at COP30, advocating effectively for the nation’s specific vulnerability to climate shocks such as drought and flooding.
The ceremony served to underscore the government’s commitment to integrating climate resilience into national development planning.
