Somalia Launches National ID Card for Domestic Travel

MOGADISHU — The Director General of Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA), Mr. Mustafa Duhulow, today officially launched the mandatory implementation of the National ID Card for all domestic travel.

A Milestone for Security and Efficiency

According to aviation and immigration officials, the first wave of passengers was successfully processed this morning under the newly enforced biometric verification system. This launch marks a major administrative milestone for the federal government following the initial two-month extension of the compliance deadline granted earlier this year.

By firmly integrating the foundational digital ID into the country’s domestic transit infrastructure, the ICA aims to vastly strengthen national security oversight. Furthermore, authorities emphasize that the standardized requirement will significantly enhance operational efficiency at vital transportation hubs and ensure safe, lawful movement for all citizens throughout the country.
