The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has vowed to investigate the downing of a Kenyan plane in Bardale “speedily.”
On Monday, reports emerged from Mogadishu and Nairobi indicating that an African Express plane had crashed in Bardale just as it was about to land.
Six people, including two crewmembers, were killed in the plane crash.
The plane, which had traveled from Baidoa, was transporting medical supplies to Somalia’s Southwest State when the incident happened.
Authorities are yet to provide a clear picture into the exact cause of the plane crash. However, multiple sources have said that unknown people hit it with a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG).
Ethiopian troops in the region are suspected to have launched the RPG that downed the plane and killed four passengers.
A statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation said, “The government promises a swift and transparent investigation into the Bardale plane crash.”
Hassan Hussein, Southwest State’s Minister of Transport confirmed that there were no survivors.
