ANKARA — The Permanent Secretary of Somalia’s Ministry of Defence, Mr. Abdifatah Abdulkadir Farah, has successfully concluded a series of high-level working meetings in Ankara with senior officials from Turkey’s Ministry of National Defence and executives from major Turkish defence industry firms.
Strategic Partnerships and Military Modernization
During the official visit, the Somali delegation engaged in comprehensive discussions with top executives from prominent, state-backed defense companies, including ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, and MKE. The talks serve as a core component of Mogadishu’s broader initiatives to rapidly bolster bilateral ties and systematically improve Somalia’s national defense capabilities.
According to Ministry officials, the core discussions centered on developing long-term strategic partnerships, identifying immediate technical collaboration opportunities, and accelerating the modernization of Somalia’s defense sector. This push for advanced technological alignment directly complements the Federal Government’s recent legislative efforts to aggressively boost national security frameworks and institutional governance.
Building Institutional Capacity
The high-level delegation accompanying the Permanent Secretary comprised vital administrative and tactical leadership, including Directors General, Department Directors, Division Heads, and specialized advisers from the Ministry of Defence, functioning alongside diplomatic officials from Somalia’s Embassy in Turkey.
The visit fundamentally highlights Somalia’s ongoing, unwavering dedication to establishing robust, international defense partnerships to increase its institutional capacity. By acquiring advanced technical support and modernizing its military apparatus, the Ministry of Defence aims to better equip frontline forces to secure national objectives, a necessity clearly demonstrated by the Somali National Army’s ongoing, high-intensity tactical operations across central and southern Somalia.
