Trump Accuses Rep. Ilhan Omar of Ties to Somali ISIS Leaders

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump intensified his ongoing dispute with Rep. Ilhan Omar on Thursday, utilizing his social media platform to imply without evidence that the Minnesota Democrat has connections with ISIS leaders in Somalia.

On Truth Social, Trump posted a news article concerning recent U.S. airstrikes targeting ISIS-Somalia hideouts in remote mountain regions. He accompanied the link with a caption questioning whether Omar was there “to protect her corrupt ‘homeland.'”

Escalating Rhetoric

This encounter represents the latest episode in an extended disagreement between the President and the progressive representative. Omar, 43, made history as the first Somali American elected to Congress after escaping the civil war and arriving in the United States as a refugee in the 1990s.

Trump has persistently targeted the Congresswoman with allegations, previously asserting her involvement in fraud, describing her as “garbage,” and proposing that she should face imprisonment or deportation.

DOJ Investigation Claims

Recently, Trump stated that the Department of Justice would examine the Congresswoman’s affairs following reports regarding the growth of her financial assets.

However, a spokesperson for Omar informed Politico that her office has not been contacted by the DOJ about any investigation. Omar has described the President’s preoccupation with her as an “obsession.”

Safety Concerns

The personal nature of their conflict has generated safety apprehensions. Following a recent incident where a man confronted Omar and sprayed her with liquid at a town hall, the Congresswoman attributed the attack to Trump’s “reprehensible rhetoric.” Conversely, Trump minimized the incident, suggesting Omar “probably had herself sprayed.”
