The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has injected $6.8 million into Somalia to improve access to education.
USAID announced its plans to inject the funds via the Stabilization through Education Program (STEP) on May 11.
It plans this with the assistance of the United States Embassy in Mogadishu.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is to implement STEP.
USAID, IOM, and the US Embassy plan to work closely with various communities around the country to rehabilitate over 200 damaged classrooms.
Water systems, latrines, and classroom walls are to benefit greatly from this program.
STEP is part of the efforts designed to support the Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP), which was recently established for the 2022-2026 period.
With this announcement, USAID has now seen its investments in education in Somalia reach $71 million.
