WISIL — Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, Commissioner of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), has arrived in the Wisil District of the Mudug Region on the third day of his urgent national drought-relief mission.
Accompanied by key members of the Galmudug Drought Response Committee, the Commissioner officially transferred 125 water tankers to the Wisil District Drought Committee. This critical logistical delivery aims to provide immediate access to clean water for rural communities and neighboring pastoral areas currently experiencing severe, life-threatening drought conditions.
Emergency Water Distribution
During his visit to the district, which falls under the Galmudug administration, Mr. Abdulle personally supervised the emergency water distribution to heavily impacted pastoral communities. He encountered numerous families enduring extremely difficult circumstances as a direct result of the prolonged and devastating climate shocks.
Wisil District is currently among the areas most severely affected by Somalia’s recurring climate disasters. This localized relief effort is part of a broader, nationwide disaster management strategy coordinated by SoDMA to prevent the escalating water and food crisis from turning into a widespread famine.
A Call for Unity During Ramadan
Witnessing the severe conditions on the ground, Commissioner Abdulle issued a strong, emotional appeal to the Somali people. He urged citizens, private businesses, and the robust diaspora to unite in supporting drought-affected communities.
The Commissioner emphasized that collective compassion, solidarity, and tangible financial assistance are especially vital during this holy month of Ramadan.
This mission underscores the federal government’s ongoing commitment to delivering frontline relief directly to the nation’s most vulnerable populations, especially amid historically low levels of international humanitarian funding.
