MOGADISHU: Somali authorities have taken into custody 11 active-duty soldiers, possessing weapons unlawfully in the capital. The apprehension resulted from security measures implemented across various locations of the city focused on enhancing security and reducing the spread of unauthorized firearms. Security sources confirmed that the detained military personnel breached existing regulations that expressly forbid armed movement of off-duty soldiers throughout the city. According to police spokespersons, these measures form part of continuous initiatives to improve overall security conditions and avert potential threats to civilian welfare. All 11 individuals remain under arrest and will soon be brought before judicial authorities to undergo legal processes and face corresponding penalties. The Somali Police had previously established guidelines prohibiting service members from bearing arms while off-duty within Mogadishu.
