At least seven civilians died and several more were hurt on Sunday when a vehicle in a convoy drove over a landmine near Ceeldheer district in central Somalia’s Galgaduud region, local authorities reported. The injured were moved to Mogadishu for care, officials stated. Security sources attributed the blast to the militant group Al-Shabaab, though the al-Qaeda-linked organization has not acknowledged the attack. Militants commonly target routes used by government forces in the area. An official noted such assaults aim to frighten civilians and hinder government activities in central regions. Locals are advised to remain vigilant on roads due to the ongoing threat of roadside bombs.
