Galmudug President Qoor-Qoor Lays Foundation for New Livestock Ministry Building in Dhusamareb

DHUSAMAREB – Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor-Qoor) has officially laid the foundation stone for the new headquarters of the Galmudug Ministry of Livestock, Forestry and Range, a project intended to strengthen public service delivery in the livestock sector, which is central to the region’s economy and the livelihoods of pastoralist communities.

The ceremony was attended by Galmudug officials, ministry leaders, and other dignitaries, who praised the project and its expected contribution to the development of the livestock sector. President Qoor-Qoor described the new building as part of a broader plan by the Galmudug administration to strengthen government institutions, improve service quality, and enhance administrative efficiency.

The Ministry of Livestock and Forestry, in collaboration with the FAO, previously handed over a newly established fodder value addition facility to the community in Dhusamareb, aimed at enhancing sustainable and resilient livestock production in the region. The facility was designed to improve the availability and quality of animal feed, which is critical for increasing livestock productivity and supporting pastoralist livelihoods.

Prioritising Agriculture and Livestock Development

President Qoor-Qoor stated that priority is being given to sectors related to livestock development, environmental protection, and forestry, as they are the backbone of Galmudug’s economy and play a vital role in the daily lives of the community. He noted that his administration is focusing on developing the productive sectors, adding that investing in key ministries is the foundation for building a modern Galmudug with quality services and efficient institutions.

The Galmudug President previously laid the foundation stone for the Galgadud Regional Referral Hospital in Dhusamareb, a project aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving access to essential medical services for the local population. The hospital, once completed, will serve as the central medical facility for Galgadud, offering advanced treatment and referral services previously unavailable in the area.

Infrastructure and Service Delivery

The Galmudug administration has also inaugurated new schools built with funding from Qatar Charity, reflecting a broader commitment to expanding public services across the state. The Ministry of Livestock has previously laid the foundation stone for a veterinary clinic in Guriceel, aimed at improving livestock health and boosting productivity in the region, which is vital for the local economy.

Qoor-Qoor reaffirmed that the Galmudug administration will continue to implement development projects that improve public services and strengthen the capacity of government institutions to fulfil their responsibilities. The new Ministry of Livestock, Forestry and Range building is expected to improve the quality of services provided to pastoralist communities and contribute to the development of livestock production and the economic growth of Galmudug.

Political Context

The foundation stone ceremony comes at a time of political transition in Galmudug. President Qoor-Qoor has announced that he will withdraw from the upcoming presidential race following talks with Federal Government officials aimed at resolving differences over the electoral process. He confirmed that he would continue to carry out his duties until a new leadership is elected, emphasising that the transfer of power would take place in accordance with established government procedures.

Way Forward

The new ministry building represents a significant step in Galmudug’s efforts to strengthen its administrative infrastructure and support the livestock sector, which remains a cornerstone of the regional economy. As the state prepares for a leadership transition, the focus on service delivery and institutional development is expected to continue.
