JSP Opens Galmudug Headquarters in Dhusamareb, Marking Key Political Expansion

DHUSAMAREB – The Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) has officially inaugurated its regional headquarters in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, in a high-level ceremony attended by federal and regional officials, party leaders, and community representatives.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by the Deputy Secretary-General of JSP, Hussein Mohamed Nur (Dhagaweyne), who was joined by the party’s secretaries for internal affairs, awareness and information, legal affairs, and the director general, as well as advisors from the presidency on women’s and youth affairs. The event was also attended by the governor of the region, the Mayor of Dhusamareb, ministers, federal parliamentarians, and other dignitaries.

The JSP was officially launched in Mogadishu in May 2025 as a vehicle for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s re-election bid. The party brought together prominent figures from across Somalia’s political landscape, including four deputy leaders: Abdiaziz Hassan Laftagareen, Sadia Yasin Samatar, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, and Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama.

Regional Expansion Amid Political Tensions

The opening of the JSP headquarters in Galmudug follows a period of heightened political tensions in the state. In December 2025, Galmudug regional authorities rejected efforts by the JSP to establish party offices and appoint representatives in districts across the state, deeming the action illegal and contrary to political party regulations.

The JSP has been actively positioning itself ahead of the Galmudug presidential election. The federal government has designated Liban Ahmed Hassan, a notable politician commonly referred to as Liban Shuluq, as the party’s sole candidate for the Galmudug presidency, effectively clearing the field of internal challengers. This approach has bypassed typical party competition and set the stage for a critical confrontation in the central region.

Mayor and Party Officials Address the Community

Mayor of Dhusamareb, Macallin Cabdiraxmaan Geedaqoroow, welcomed the opening of the new headquarters, describing it as an important step that enhances political participation and strengthens the democratic process in the country. Minister of Youth and Sports, Abdulkadir Mohamed, and other party officials called on the people of Galmudug to join the JSP and take advantage of the political opportunities the party offers to the community.

The party’s expansion in Galmudug comes amid a dangerous political rift at the core of Somalia’s federal government and security apparatus. The crisis stems from a bitter disagreement between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his intelligence chief over who will lead Galmudug, with the president backing Liban Shuluq for the presidency.

Deputy Secretary-General’s Remarks

Deputy Secretary-General Hussein Mohamed Nur (Dhagaweyne) stated that the opening of the headquarters is part of the party’s plan to expand and strengthen its operations across the country. He called on the people of Galmudug to play a visible role in the country’s political process and to support the JSP’s vision, which is built on justice, solidarity, and inclusive development.

The JSP demonstrated its electoral strength in the December 2025 Banadir local council elections, where it secured a commanding lead across Mogadishu’s 16 districts in the first direct “one-person, one-vote” election held in the capital in over five decades.

Way Forward

The opening of the JSP headquarters in Dhusamareb represents a significant step in the party’s efforts to expand its presence across Somalia’s federal member states. As Galmudug prepares for its regional elections, the party’s ability to navigate the complex political landscape and address the concerns of local stakeholders will be crucial to its success in the region.
