MOGADISHU – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud offered his warmest congratulations to the nation on the joyous occasion of Eid al-Adha, highlighting its significance as a festival grounded in spiritual devotion, kindness, sacrifice, unity, and care for those in need. The president participated in Eid prayers alongside hundreds of worshippers at the Islamic Unity Mosque in the capital, calling for national unity, social solidarity, and continued support for Somalia’s state-building initiatives.
“May Allah accept our righteous actions and grant us the opportunity to celebrate this day again in tranquility, wellness, and abundance,” the President stated in his Eid message.
Salute to Armed Forces and Security Protectors
President Hassan Sheikh also acknowledged the Somali National Armed Forces, the nation’s security protectors, and all citizens contributing to national reconstruction and stability. “I salute the Armed Forces, the courageous individuals safeguarding our country, and all Somalis who continue to uphold peace and statehood. Their sacrifices and commitment have been instrumental in the progress and accomplishments Somalia is achieving today,” he expressed.
The president highlighted that Somalia’s reconstruction and governance processes had reached a “historic phase” propelled by Somali citizens, emphasizing the importance of social cohesion, mutual support, and assistance for vulnerable communities. The government has been navigating a politically sensitive period while sustaining military operations against Al-Shabaab militants in southern and central regions.
Prayers for Somali Pilgrims and National Prosperity
The President further extended special appreciation to Somali pilgrims undertaking the Hajj journey, supplicating for the acceptance of their devotions and for enduring peace and blessings for Somalia and its people. This year’s Eid al-Adha festivities align with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, where 432 Somali pilgrims began their journey from Mogadishu and Hargeisa to join millions of Muslims performing religious rites in Mecca and surrounding holy sites.
“I pray that Allah accepts their worship and bestows peace and prosperity upon our nation and citizens,” President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud concluded.
Unity Amid Security Challenges and Political Pressures
Following the prayers, President Mohamud addressed the worshippers, congratulating Somalis on the occasion and praying for enduring peace, prosperity, and development in the nation. “It is crucial that we reinforce our unity, cooperation, and societal support to achieve a peaceful and developed Somalia,” the president stated.
Federal government officials have increasingly leveraged major religious events to promote reconciliation and unity amidst persistent security challenges, political disagreements, and humanitarian pressures stemming from drought and displacement across various parts of the country. The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has been working to deliver aid to vulnerable families during the holiday period, in line with the president’s call for care for those in need.
The president’s comments come as Somalia continues military operations against Al-Shabaab militants in areas of southern and central regions while also advancing constitutional reforms, electoral processes, and broader efforts to reconstruct national institutions following decades of conflict. Recent operations have intensified against militant hideouts, and the government has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the nation.
