DIINSOOR: The Interim Leader of the South West State of Somalia, Jibriil Abdirashid Haji, accompanied by the Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalan Abdi Ali Dhaay, and the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority, Mahmoud Moallim, conducted a working visit to the Diinsoor district in the Bay region.
The delegation’s visit focused on assessing the overall situation in the district, particularly concerning security conditions, humanitarian challenges, and the status of ongoing development projects.
According to a report from the Somali National News Agency, the officials held meetings with the district administration, security agencies, and representatives from various sectors of the community. They received briefings on the current conditions in the district, including urgent humanitarian and development priorities.
Strengthening Stability and Service Delivery
The delegation also explored strategies to enhance stability, improve service delivery, and expedite development efforts in Diinsoor and neighboring areas.
This visit is part of comprehensive initiatives by the South West State administration and the Federal Government of Somalia to closely monitor conditions in regional districts, reinforce security, expand social services, and support ongoing development initiatives throughout the region.
The leadership in South West State has been working to stabilize the region and prepare for upcoming elections. Federal and regional leaders previously held high-level meetings in Baidoa to coordinate the political transition and security consolidation in the state.
Diinsoor is one of 13 districts across the Bay, Bakool, and Lower Shabelle regions where local council and representative elections were recently held. Voting centers were established throughout the district as part of the transition to universal suffrage.
Coordinating Development and Humanitarian Aid
The delegation’s focus on humanitarian conditions aligns with ongoing federal efforts to address the impact of prolonged drought in the Bay region. Commissioner Moallim has been leading SoDMA’s regional drought response operations, including water delivery and food relief programs in Baidoa and surrounding districts.
The commissioner has also been actively assessing humanitarian conditions across federal member states as part of a nationwide push to coordinate disaster response.
The visit forms part of broader efforts by the South West State administration and the Federal Government of Somalia to closely monitor conditions in regional districts, reinforce security, expand social services, and support ongoing development initiatives across the region.
