MOGADISHU – Saadad Mohamed Nur (Caliyow), the State Minister for Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, has formally resigned from his post to pursue the speakership of the House of the People, marking the start of a high-stakes contest for one of the most powerful positions in Somalia’s federal government.

Caliyow announced his resignation on Saturday, stating that his decision was driven by his political ambition and his desire to run for Speaker of the Lower House. “I have decided to realize my ambition and aspiration, which is to be a candidate for the Speaker of the House of the People,” Caliyow said. He expressed gratitude to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre for the opportunity to serve in the cabinet.
